Many people in the Coastal Bend are familiar with the video entitled "All the Cups", that shows how rain events can flush an amazing amount of trash off our streets and into the bays via the storm drain system. This video opened a lot of peoples' eyes to the extent of pollution caused by urban runoff.
In an effort to decrease the amount of trash that enters Corpus Christi Bay, the City of Corpus Christi is preparing to study new stormwater debris removal devices at eight storm drain outfalls on the bayfront between Cole Park and the South Texas Art Museum. The devices, which should be installed in early 2023, include hydrodynamic separators, a containment boom, a trash rack and baffle boxes. After testing the devices, City staff and consulting engineers will draw conclusions on which devices work best in our local environment and make recommendations on where others can be installed. We're excited that the City is working on this important problem and look forward to seeing the progress of the study.
